MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION

IUSG Member Application

The IUSG welcomes new members, both clinicians and researchers with primary interest in uveitis and ocular immunology/inflammation.

Eligibility criteria for full membership:

  1. Full members should be graduates in medicine or non-clinicians in good professional standing with a major clinical and/or research interest in uveitis.
  2. All applicants must have completed a Fellowship (or equivalent subspecialty training) in uveitis usually for a minimum of one year (an Observership is not acceptable) or a PhD in a research area related to uveitis or ocular inflammation.
  3. Minimum 5 years of independent (a) uveitis practice as consultant (this does not include any time spent as a Fellow), or (b) research as senior scientist in the field of uveitis.
  4. Minimum 10 MEDLINE-indexed publications on PubMed (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov) in uveitis published within the last 10 years, with at least 7 of them being original research articles (excluding narrative reviews, case reports/small case series <10 patients) as first/last i.e. senior author.
  5. In the case of exceptional candidates (e.g. senior scientists, physicians, ophthalmologists who do not specialize in uveitis) who wish to join the IUSG, the Credentials committee can waive the above three criteria.
  6. Two IUSG members, each with a minimum of two years of IUSG membership should endorse the applicant, one of who should have personal knowledge of the applicant’s clinical practice of uveitis/scientific research.

These criteria are minimum requirements. The Credentials committee exercises discretion with regards to them.

Eligibility criteria for associate membership:

The applicant must have been in clinical practice of uveitis, practiced for a minimum of 5 years (this does not include any time spent as a Fellow), with a substantial portion of their time dedicated to uveitis (at least 20%).

  1. They should be recognized in their country as a referral specialist in uveitis.
  2. Minimum of 10 publications in uveitis without a requirement for first or senior authorship.
  3. The applicant must have made at least 10 presentations on uveitis at national or international meetings.
  4. They should be permanently living in a country with an emerging and developing economy (for a list of these countries please see https://www.accessibilityassociation.org/s/emerging-and-developing-economies)
  5. Two IUSG members, each with a minimum of two years of IUSG membership should endorse the applicant, one of who should have personal knowledge of the applicant’s practice of uveitis.

All eligible candidates can apply with the following documents:

  1. Completed application form.
  2. Letter of interest indicating why the applicant wishes to join the IUSG.
  3. Curriculum vitae (should include the dates of training and practice, details of current clinical practice / scientific research, membership of international societies, presentations at national and international scientific meetings, editorial board membership and ad hoc journal reviews; all publications should be cited in National Library of Medicine (NLM) format as on PubMed.

The LOE form should be e-mailed by the endorsing IUSG members.Applications are assessed in January, May and September.

The deadline for receiving applications is December 31st, April 30th, and August 31st.

Applications received outside those dates will be deferred to the next deadline.
